WCSS and Tohoku University Co-hosted 2022 UIP & Campus Asia Plus Joint Symposium

West China School of Stomatology Sichuan University (WCSS) and Graduate School of Dentistry Tohoku University jointly hosted 2022 University Immersion Program (UIP) and Campus Asia Plus Joint Symposium during June 27th to July 1st online and offline.

The opening ceremony was successfully held on June 27th, hosted by Professor Shen Jiefei from WCSS and Professor Hong Guang from Tohoku University. Professor Ye Ling, President of the symposium and Dean of WCSS, expressed heartfelt thanks to the organizers and all experts invited, and she also extended a warm welcome to all students taking part. After emphasizing the significance of UIP as well as its merging with CAMPUS Asia Plus program, Professor Ye introduced main content of the meeting and expressed willing for further cooperation between the two sides. Professor Nobuhiro Takahashi, Dean of Graduate School of Dentistry Tohoku University, spoke highly of productive long-term cooperation between the two sides, highlighted the progress of Campus Asia Plus and wished the symposium a success. After the ceremony, Professor Han Xianglong, Vice Dean of WCSS, and Professor Hong Guang co-chaired the rest of the meeting.

16 specialists from Graduate School of Dentistry Tohoku University and 10 from WCSS were invited to deliver keynote speeches at the symposium. Their lectures covered a wide range of topics including researches on oral diseases and preclinical medicine, basic knowledge of oral medicine, clinical therapies, epidemiological survey, scientific research methods, etc. Apart from that, two specialized courses taught in English were offered, namely “Multidisciplinary Perspective on Comprehensive Clinical Cases in Stomatology” and “New discoveries and prospects of oral medicine——Innovation forum of Asia Campus Plus Program”. The entire UIP was conducted online, providing a free access to students from more than 30 dental schools in Asia. It has attracted thousands of students home and abroad to participate online on the very first day.

UIP, held for many sessions, is an important platform for WCSS to build first-class oral education, which has been launched by WCSS along with some world-renowned dental colleges, such as Harvard University, UCLA, Tohoku University, Academic Center for Dentistry in Amsterdam, etc. UIP & Campus Asia Plus Joint Symposium this year is a meaningful success which helps to further integrate high quality teaching resources of WCSS and Graduate School of Dentistry Tohoku University, and to promote the opening up and exchanges of dental colleges in Asian countries in education and talent cultivation.
